What is APU?
APU stands for Active Portal Usage. It measures how much your contact database is engaging with Homebot over time, not how many contacts you have loaded.
Instead of counting contacts, APU counts meaningful engagement: when a contact clicks into Homebot, interacts with tools and insights, or reaches out to you directly.
Who does this affect: APU applies to lenders on the Unlimited plan only.
What does APU measure?
APU is based on engagement from your contacts, including:
Click-throughs from Homebot emails
Activity inside Homebot, such as using tools, exploring home insights, or running scenarios
Inbound messages from contacts who reach out through Homebot
APU does not count email opens. Homebot focuses on actions that show a contact is actively engaging, not just that an email was seen.
Why is my APU higher than my number of contacts?
APU is not a count of people, it's a measure of usage. One highly engaged contact can contribute more than one unit of APU over time.
For example, if a single contact clicks into Homebot, interacts with their home insights, and also sends you a message, each of those counts as separate engagement. Because of this, it's normal — and expected — for your APU number to be higher than the total number of contacts in your database.
Why didn't my APU change right away after my contacts' activity changed?
APU is measured over a rolling six-month period, so short-term changes usually won't move the number right away. A few days or weeks of new activity (or a quiet stretch) typically won't cause a large, immediate swing.
Doing it this way keeps the metric more stable and predictable over time, rather than reacting to any single unusually busy or quiet month.
Where can I see my APU?
Lenders on the Unlimited plan may see APU number in places like:
The Homebot dashboard
The billing page, displaying average monthly APU
Homebot engagement summaries or the weekly leaderboard email
Common questions
Is APU the same as my number of contacts?
No. APU measures engagement from your contacts. It is not the same as the number of contacts you have loaded into Homebot.
Does APU count email opens?
No. Email opens are not included in APU. APU focuses on stronger engagement signals, such as email clicks, in-product activity, and inbound messages.
Why did my APU not go down after engagement slowed?
APU is measured over a rolling six-month period and may not decrease right away based on a short-term change. If your usage has changed and your current plan no longer feels like the right fit, contact your Homebot representative to review your options.
Why does my billing period not match the calendar month?
Your billing view may be based on your account's billing cycle rather than the first and last day of the calendar month, so the dates may not line up exactly with a standard monthly report.
